The 5 Most Beautiful & Easy-Access Waterfalls in Byron Bay

It’s no secret that Byron is home to some of most stunning and pristine beaches in Australia, but there’s many more beautiful ways to enjoy this slice of heaven on a hot day. Such as taking a dip in one of the many natural swimming holes in the area. Next time you’re in town, be sure to check out our 5 favourite, easy-access waterfalls in Byron Bay.

1) Minyon Falls

The 5 Most Beautiful & Easy-to-Access Waterfalls in Byron Bay

About a 1-hour drive from Byron is the spectacular Minyon Falls. If you’re lucky enough to witness the falls in full flow, it’s nothing short of amazing. There’s something so incredibly mystical about standing beneath a raging sheet of water amid an ancient rainforest.

Nestled at the heart of Nightcap National Park, the base of Minyon Falls can be reached by a number of different walking tracks, varying in length and difficulty. But if you don’t feel like walking, there’s a fantastic viewing platform just a few steps from the carpark and picnic benches.

2) Killen Falls

The 5 Most Beautiful & Easy-to-Access Waterfalls in Byron Bay

This instagrammer's dream is a cruisy 30 mins from the centre of town, hidden away in the picturesque hinterland town of Tintenbar. Set amongst a lush green rainforest, the swimming hole is accessed via a short walk down a well-maintained, gravel path, followed by a rocky descent.

The last part of the descent does have some tree roots and rocks to walk over that can get slippery if wet, so just take some caution here. Once you’ve arrived at the falls, you’ll be greeted with sparkling shallows perfect for cooling off in.

3) Protestor Falls

An absolute must-visit! The walk to the falls is easy and very pretty too surrounded by the rainforest. Please note however, this is not a waterfall for swimming in as it’s home to the endangered Fleay’s Barred frog and it’s important we respect their natural habitat.

What’s extra special about this waterfall though, is what takes place come night-time! Yes, that’s right, Protestor Falls has a secret. If you re-enter the rainforest at night, your path will be lit by thousands of glow worms and bioluminescent mushrooms! It’s truly a magnificent sight to behold.

4) Goonengerry Falls

The 5 Most Beautiful & Easy-to-Access Waterfalls in Byron Bay

Not your typical waterfall experience, but certainly one to add to the list. The top of the falls is just a 10 min walk from the car park, but there’s no sign to point you in the right direction. You will need to take the trail at the north end of the carpark and part way along you will find one signpost which will reassure you you’re on the right tracks!

Although you can’t see the falls themselves, the setting is really quite magical and there’s plenty of rock pools to paddle in and take in the breath-taking mountain views from. We suggest packing a picnic and just relaxing on top of a giant waterfall for the afternoon!

5) Whian Whian Falls

If easy access is your top priority, Whian Whian Falls is the one for you. This equally as beautiful, yet smaller waterfall has two swimming pools to choose from which can be reached via a 250m walking track (less than 5 mins).

To avoid the crowds, we recommend going early in the morning to have this stunning spot to yourself…what a perfect way to start the day!
